Local Business Celebrates 25th Anniversary
Frontenac Outfitters, one of Canada's largest on-water paddle sports centres, celebrates 25 years in business. "We kind of think of ourselves as a rural Canadian success story" says owners Larry and Christine Showler. On-water paddling centers were virtually non-existent 25 years ago and most canoes were purchased off the wall with the customer having no means to test paddle prior to their purchase. Frontenac Outfitters wanted to change the way people shopped for canoes and kayaks and with the purchase of waterfront property at the entrance to Frontenac Provincial Park they can offer their customers a complete selection of on-water sales, rentals, tours, courses and paddling clinics.
Frontenac Outfitters opened in 1984 as a canoe rental business to service Frontenac Provincial Park which opened its trail centre the same year. Frontenac Provincial Park is Canada's southern most semi-wilderness park with 15,000 acres, 160 km's of hiking trails and 22 lakes, one of Ontario's best kept secrets.
"Created by paddlers for paddlers", Frontenac Outfitters knowledge of the industry and full service shop has helped this family business survive and continue to thrive. "We would like to 'thank you' and the thousands of loyal customers we've had the privileged to meet. Christine & I would like to invite you to share our life's passion and we look forward so seeing you this season".
